Dr. Yossi Beilin, former Deputy Foreign Minister (1992-95) and the mastermind behind The Oslo Process, spoke at the Jerusalem Press Club about The UN Security Council Resolution: Implications for Israel. Dr. Beilin said that the significance of the resolution lies not in the fact that the US abstained, but that so many countries voted for it. He cautioned that having close relations between Israeli and foreign leaders behind closed doors doesn’t mean that the official policies of their respective countries agrees with Israel’s policies on settlement. Dr. Beilin presented an idea he is currently pursuing – A confederation between Israel and an independent Palestinian state.
