The Jerusalem Press Club condemns the seizure of Zaman newspaper by the Turkish Government. This act, followed by the firing of the Editor-in-Chief and other harsh measures against Zaman’s journalists, are some of the worst measures against press freedom seen in the Middle East lately. At our press freedom conference, held in Jerusalem in May 2015, some of the Turkish journalists voiced their concern about press freedom in their country. Their prophecies became a reality sooner than they had feared. The Jerusalem Press Club sends a warm message of support and encouragement to fellow Turkish journalists, now facing extreme professional and personal challenges.
