The Jerusalem Press Club and The Israel Museum hosted JPC members to a special tour of the exhibition “Pharaoh in Canaan: The Untold Story”. The tour was led by Dr. Eran Arie, the Senior Curator.
About the exhibition:
Pharaoh in Canaan, tells the astonishingly unfamiliar story of how Egypt ruled in Canaan for nearly 400 years in the 2nd millennium BCE, occasioning a remarkable merging of aesthetics and ritual practices of these two cultures, while their ideologies continued to develop along two separate paths. This breathtaking display of more than 680 objects – from large-scale royal victory steles and anthropoid coffins to scarabs and amulets – is drawn from the museum extensive holdings, alongside local archaeological finds excavated by the Israel Antiquities Authority and seminal loans from the Metropolitan Museum, New York; the Louvre Museum, Paris; the Egyptian Museum, Turin; the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna; and important private collections worldwide.
