On Thursday, June 6, 2013 JPC hosted the book launch for “Freeing Gilad Shalit”
by journalist and peace activist, Gershon Baskin.
Gilad Shalit himself, as well as his parents and many activists who fought for five years for Gilad’s release were present at the event. Noam Shalit, Gilad’s father, praised Gershon Baskin for not giving up on his attempts despite being dismissed and even ridiculed by the establishment for his efforts over the years.
During the event, a group of Rishon Etsyon elementary school students passing by got so excited seeing Gilad Shalit that they insisted on stoping and taking pictures with Gilad before they continued their field trip of the Mishkenot Sha’ananim neighborhood. The children were so excited, they were calling Gilad’s name with joy!
A group of journalism students from the University of Miami who are hosted by JPC for a semester abroad were also present and had a memorable experience along with a lasting photo op with Gilad.
