On Tuesday, December 24, 2013 the Jerusalem Press Club hosted Judge A. Jay Cristol who came all the way from Miami to talk about his book “The Liberty Incident: The 1967 Attack on the U.S. Navy Spy Ship”, dealing with the tragic incident of the Six Day War, when Israeli aircraft bombed the US Navy surveillance ship Liberty. Based on decades of research and on declassified materials, Judge Cristol’s unwavering conclusion is that the incident was caused by wartime confusion, and contrary to the conspiracy theories, the Liberty was bombed by mistake.
Judge A. Jay Cristol is the world’s leading expert on the tragic attack on the USS Liberty that occurred during the 1967 Six Day War. Judge Cristol is a carrier-rated Navy pilot who served in the Navy JAG corps and began researching the Liberty academically (as the subject of his doctoral thesis from the University of Miami).
Since he began his exhaustive research twenty-five years ago, Judge Cristol has met with US and Israeli military and diplomatic figures at all levels, from US and Israeli combatants and operators who participated in the incident, to former Secretaries and Ministers of Defense of both countries.
He has lectured at the NSA and in front of both US and Israeli military audiences and on campuses in the United States and Israel.
Judge Cristol’s work was central to a chapter on the Liberty, featured in Ben Caspit’s popular television series on Conspiracy Theories.
