The Israeli Society: Dangerous Trends with Dan Meridor

The Israeli Society: Dangerous Trends with Dan Meridor

On August 20 – 2015, Dan Meridor, former Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of JPC, spoke about The Radicalization in the Israeli Society.

He attributed the recent phenomena to the realization that political solutions to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict have failed, both from left and right, which gave incentive to extreme attitudes to try and take over the center. Furthermore, the introduction of religion into the political arena made compromises between conflicting views difficult, if not impossible.

Mr. Meridor lamented the attacks on the Israeli Supreme Court, something that would have never happened before, even when the Court made unpopular decisions. He reminded the audience that with the anti-Israeli de-legitimization campaign going on, it is the Israeli Supreme Court that is still regarded and respected as a pillar of the Israeli democracy.
