Who: Dan Meridor was born in Jerusalem in 1947, and holds a law degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Meridor has been a Knesset observer to the Council of Europe and has published articles in academic journals. In March 2009 Meridor served in the Israeli government as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Intelligence and Atomic Energy. In 2014 he became the President of the Israel Council on Foreign Relations. He is the Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Jerusalem Press Club.

Who: Uri Dromi
Prior to becoming Director General of the Jerusalem Press Club, fulfilling a lifelong dream, Uri Dromi was director general of Mishkenot Sha’ananim Conference Center. Dromi served as the spokesman of the Rabin and Peres governments from 1992 to 1996, during the dramatic days of the Oslo process and the peace agreement between Israel and Jordan. From 1996 to 2007, he was director of publications and international outreach at the Israel Democracy Institute. A retired colonel, Dromi served in the Israeli Air Force from 1964 to 1989 and continued to fly in the reserves until 2003 after retiring from active duty. A frequent columnist for leading media publications, he is a book and opera reviewer for Israel’s daily Ha’aretz newspaper, has published three books, and authors a regular column, “Focus on Israel,” for the Miami Herald. He is a graduate of Ben-Gurion University.

Who: Asra Q. Nomani was born in Bombay, India in 1965 to a conservative Muslim family, worked as a staff reporter for the Wall Street Journal for 15 years. After the 9/11 attacks she went to Pakistan to report for Salon magazine and there her colleague and friend Daniel Pearl was kidnapped while staying at her home in Karachi. Still hopeful, Nomani is editing a project to codify a new school of Islamic law, rejecting mainstream interpretations, including blasphemy laws, and espousing feminist, peaceful and liberal values, including free speech.

Who: Dr. Noam Lemelshtrich Latar
Dr. Noam Lemelshtrich Latar is Founding Dean of the Sammy Ofer School of communications at IDC Herzliya and the Chairman of the Daniel Pearl International Journalism Institute. In years 2009–2012 he was the chairman of the Israeli association for Study of Communications. He received his doctorate in media from MIT and was one of the founders of the Community Dialog Project at MIT in the Human Machine Systems Laboratory. He was involved in establishing few media start-ups. His current research focuses on the effects of artificial intelligence algorithms and robotics on the media and the press.

Who: Georges Malbrunot, the Middle East reporter for Le Figaro, the first French daily newspaper, has been covering the Middle East for 25 years. He was based in Jerusalem between 1994 and 2002 while in 2003 he moved to Bagdad where he stayed for a year and half until he was kidnapped with his colleague Christian Chesnot for 124 days. He wrote a dozen of books about the second intifada, Iraq, Al Qaida, Qatar and the Syrian crisis.

He wrote 6 books, edited and published more than 60
books dedicated to protection of the rights of journalists. In 2014 Simonov received a Freedom of Speech Award from IAPS.
Who: Yavuz Baydar co-founded the independent media platform, P24, Punto24, to monitor the media sector of Turkey. He writes opinion columns in Turkish and in English for the daily Today’s Zaman, on Turkey’s domestic and foreign policy issues and media matters. Baydar received the Special Award of the European Press Prize (EPP), for ‘excellence in journalism’, which he shared with the Guardian and Der Spiegel in 2014. He recently completed an extensive research as a Shorenstein Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School on self-censorship and growing threats to journalism in Turkey.

As part of this work he developed a major cross platform narrative training programmer with the BBC called inFUZE. In 2010 he was identified as a leading innovator in journalism and media.

During 2011, Dr. Altshuler headed the research and development department of the Second Authority for Radio and Television, which is the Israeli media regulator. Her main academic interests are media and telecom regulation. She has published books, articles and policy papers on matters of media and new media policy.
