On Tuesday, June 16, 2015, JPC hosted Lt. Col., (Res.) David Benjamin, who spoke about The Gaza War 2014: Reaction to the Various Reports. Benjamin, who had served in the IDF Military Advocate General’s Corps (MAG) as chief legal advisor for the Gaza Strip and as director of the Strategic and International Branch in the International Law Department, is currently the Director and Founder of SILS – Security & International Law Specialists.
Benjamin endorsed the position of the Israeli government not to cooperate with the commission established by the United Nations Human Rights Council (formerly the Shabas Commision), but remarked that the report issued by the Foreign Ministry of Israel should have been prepared earlier, so that the UNHRC commision could have referred to it, even without a formal collaboration.
