On Tuesday, April 4, 2017 JPC members enjoyed a unique tour of the Haredi (ultra orthodox) community in Jerusalem.
Prior to the tour, we had a short conversation about the origins of the Haredi community, in Europe and in Israel, changes that happened during the years in Israel and where we stand today – including some statistics.
We started our tour at United Hatzalah, the organization that saves many lives in Israel by having medics in every neighborhood. We went on to Geulah neighborhood, where we discussed the housing crisis in the Haredi community.
And finally, we had a tradition Shabbat lunch, where we discussed some burning issues, such as women in the Haredi community, economics, and the relationship between the Haredi community, the state of Israel and the Israeli society.
