Family members, active and retired journalists and friends gathered on Friday, May 30, at the Jerusalem Press Club to pay tribute Robert Slater, veteran journalist and author of more than 30 books, who have passed away at the age of 70.
Uri Dromi, Director of the Jerusalem Press Club, spoke of Slater’s book about Rabin; Haim Shibi, of the Jerusalem Journalists’ Association, described Slater as “a man who had the soul of a true journalist”; Israel Prize Laureate David Rubinger reminisced on their joint time at Time Jerusalem bureau; Herb Krosney spoke about Slater the prolific writer; Slater’s daughter, Miriam, read a moving letter from a colleague from AP, Marcus Eliason, who described how Slater had beaten him several times in the rush for scoops. Eli, Slater’s widow, thanked the organizers and the people who had come to pay professional and personal respect to her late husband.
